Urban Sprouts Child Development Center, University City, MO

Urban Sprouts in University City, MO, is another example of how First Children’s can help stimulate successful child care businesses. Located six miles west of St. Louis, Urban Sprouts opened this year with the belief that the “purpose of early childhood education is to nurture children’s curiosity and encourage them to realize their power.” Urban Sprouts needed start-up funds to launch its center, and director Ellicia Qualls wasted no time contacting First Children’s Finance. “When I took Education Foundations in college, I had to establish five- and ten-year goals. This was my ten-year goal, and in my tenth year a grant from ARCHS (Area Resources for Community and Human Services) became available.” Qualls has worked in childhood education for over a decade and has a clear vision for what she wants in her center. “The response from the community has been tremendous, continued Qualls. “We’d done analysis, so we figured it was a great spot. Our daycare sits on a huge park in a family-oriented community. If I had it to do it all over again, I’d open a larger center. We’re busting out at the seams, and we’ve only been open for three months.” For more information about Urban Sprouts Child Development Center, log onto http://urbansprouts.wordpress.com or call Ellicia Qualls at 314-725-0160 .
