The position

FCF is seeking a Business Development Specialist to join its growing team in Michigan. The Business Development Specialist position provides business and financial planning, consultation, training and support to early care and education providers; promotes FCF and its programs and services; and connects to a diversity of FCF stakeholders, partners and constituents. The Business Development Specialist works closely with the Michigan Director, along with other members of the Michigan team to promote and ensure the effectiveness of FCF’s core programs, including: (1) consulting services and technical assistance to child care businesses; (2) training and education to variety of audiences; and (3) facilitation of community engagement activities.

The Opportunity

FCF is looking to recruit this position to work in rural regions of Michigan. This position is a remote work opportunity, working from home with travel to in-person meetings. This position will require regular travel locally/regionally within Michigan.

  • Work with Michigan Director and team to develop, promote and implement programs, services, and resources to support the mission of FCF across the state
  • Identify and build relationships with key rural stakeholders
  • Provide training and consultation support to strengthen child care businesses
  • Provide individualized consulting services to both start-up and existing child care entrepreneurs, focusing on the business side of child care
  • Facilitate small-group and community engagement activities in support of FCF’s community-based programming
  • Participate in relevant local/regional stakeholder meetings and events
  • Input, manage and analyze financial and program data
  • Assist with program reporting as assigned
  • Regular travel within Michigan
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Desired Experience
  • Connections to rural ECE partners throughout Michigan
  • Consulting, training, lending and/or public speaking
  • Working with small businesses, or experience owning/operating a small business
  • Direct experience with child care strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with rural communities
  • Familiarity with the State of Michigan’s child care licensing regulations
  • Resource development/fundraising is a plus
  • Ability to provide business and financial consultation and training
  • Ability to read, interpret, and analyze financial statements and develop and manage budgets
  • Ability to think strategically and implement plans on the ground
  • Ability to promote a positive image of FCF and position FCF as a key resource in the field of early care and education
  • Ability to be flexible and work collaboratively with a diversity of FCF staff, customers, partners, and stakeholders
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision yet be a part of a team
  • Willingness and ability to travel throughout Michigan
