Mission and Organizational Background

The mission of First Children’s Finance (FCF) is to grow the supply and business sustainability of excellent child care. Founded in 1991, FCF provides business and financial assistance to business owners and leaders in the field of Early Care and Education (ECE). To achieve our goalsFCF works on three levels: Individual Business Level, Community Level and Systems Level. FCF is a national nonprofit organization headquartered in Minneapolis that provides business development programs and/or financing to ECE providers in multiple states, with regional offices in three: Minnesota, Iowa, and Michigan. Purpose

The FCF National Team is seeking multiple Business Development Specialists to join its growing team to support the growing work in Oregon, and other states. The FCF National Team is expanding to serve more child care providers and more communities statewide. The Business Development Specialist position provides business and financial planning, consultation, training and support to early care and education providers; promotes FCF and its programs and services; and connects to a diverse group of FCF stakeholders, partners, and constituents. The Business Development Specialist works closely with the National Business Development Consultant, along with other members of the National Team to promote and ensure the effectiveness of FCF’s core programs, including: (1) consulting services and technical assistance to child care businesses; (2) training and education to a variety of audiences; and (3) facilitation of community engagement activities. 

FCF is looking to fill multiple positions on the National Team with an emphasis on our emerging work in Oregon. These positions are remote work opportunities (but based in the state of Oregon), working from home with some in-person meetings required post-pandemic. This position will require regular travel within Oregon and throughout the United States. Some evening hours may be required. This position is a temporary, full-time position with benefits. The work is slated for a two-year period, with the opportunity for continuation. This continuation is contingent upon future funded work.  

Responsibilities
  • Work with the Business Development Consultant and the Director of National Initiatives to develop, promote and implement programs, services, and resources to support the mission of FCF across the state 
  • Provide training and consultation support to strengthen Oregon child care businesses 
  • Provide individualized consulting services to both start-up and existing child care entrepreneurs, focusing on the business side of child care 
  • Facilitate small-group and community engagement activities in support of FCF’s community-based programming 
  • Participate in relevant local/regional stakeholder meetings and events 
  • Input, manage and analyze financial and program data  
  • Assist with program reporting as assigned 
  • Perform other duties as assigned 
Desired Experience
  • Consulting, training, facilitation and/or public speaking 
  • Working with small businesses, or experience owning/operating a small business 
  • Direct experience with child care strongly preferred 
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with communities of color and low-resourced communities 
  • Familiarity with the State of Oregon’s child care licensing regulations 
  • Resource development/fundraising is a plus 
Skills
  • Fluency in Spanish is essential  
  • Ability to provide business and financial consultation and training 
  • Ability to read, interpret, and analyze financial statements and develop and manage budgets 
  • Ability to think strategically and implement plans on the ground 
  • Ability to promote a positive image of FCF and position FCF as a key resource in the field of early care and education 
  • Ability to be flexible and work collaboratively with a diverse group of FCF staff, customers, partners, and stakeholders
