Salary and Benefits:

The starting salary for this position is $58,000. Benefits include medical, dental, life, and disability insurance, holidays, and paid time off. Mission and Organizational Background

The mission of First Children’s Finance (FCF) is to grow the supply and business sustainability of excellent child care. Founded in 1991, FCF provides business and financial assistance to business owners and leaders in the field of Early Care and Education (ECE). To achieve our goals, FCF works on three levels: Individual Business Level, Community Level and Systems Level. FCF is a national nonprofit organization headquartered in Minneapolis that provides business development programs and/or financing to ECE providers in multiple states, with regional offices in three: Minnesota, Iowa, and Michigan. The Communications Associate will be responsible for producing and publishing internal and external communications. The Communications Associate will collaborate with departments across the organization to tell stories of FCF’s clients and highlight the impact of FCF’s programs, services, and investments.

This position is a remote employment opportunity. After the pandemic, when travel is safe and advisable, this position may require occasional travel within the United States.


Responsible for producing and publishing internal and external communications, such as:

  • drafting and distributing press releases, newsletters, reports, website copy, and constituent communications
  • managing the website and social media channels
  • preparing PowerPoint presentations
  • proofreading/editing correspondence, reports, funding or marketing proposals, speeches, and other communications
  • reviewing and analyzing program data to identify and effectively communicate key points
  • researching issues and highlighting trends relevant to the organization’s mission and services
  • conducting interviews of program participants and other key stakeholders upon request
  • translating complex concepts into simple, accessible communications
  • handling and routing and/or responding to media inquiries as appropriate
  • supporting staff in adopting and adhering to key messages and brand standards
  • creating and/or updating communications templates
  • obtaining photos and images for online use and/or to accompany written content
  • handling logistics such as printing and (software) application subscriptions
  • scheduling and taking notes at meetings with internal and/or external stakeholders
  • supporting local and national events
  • working with the organization’s external consultants
  • other duties as assigned.
Education, Experience and Other Qualifications
  • Four years’ related work experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Experience using website content management systems and mass email/e-newsletter software
  • Professional and/or volunteer experience in nonprofits, philanthropy, or the public sector a plus
  • Experience with graphic design or print layout software a plus
  • Excellent writing skills
