Fond du Lac Band Discusses Tribal Child Care

FCF and Fond du Lac Band Discusses Child Care Needs

In June and July 2022, First Children’s Finance spent multiple days with members of the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa community discussing child care needs in the area.

First Children’s Finance and the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indigenous Core Team.

First Children’s Finance, with its partner, Indigenous Visioning, operate the First Children First Nations Child Care Collaborative. Fond du Lac was selected as one of the Native Nations to participate in the project, and it established a local Indigenous Core Team to study culturally and linguistically responsive care in the area. During the July Community Gatherings, the Indigenous Core Team and FCF shared the results of a supply-demand gap analysis and the findings from the surveys conducted in the community. After considering all the data collected, community members generated potential solutions to address the need for child care across the tribal service area. The Fond du Lac Indigenous Core Team is currently reviewing and prioritizing ideas about licensing, workforce supports, provider recruitment, public funding, and incentives. The  Indigenous Core Team is working to finalize their Community Solution Action Plan, which will be available on the First Children’s Finance website in the coming weeks.
